Lab directory · China
How do I find a CPSC-accepted lab in Shenzhen, Guangzhou or Ningbo?
Short answer: Use CPSC's official lab search at cpsc.gov/cgi-bin/labsearch: set Country to China, add the province and city, and select the testing scopes your product needs. CPSC accepts labs one location and one test at a time, so the Lab ID on your report must be accepted for every rule you certify. On October 19, 2026 the list showed 736 accepted labs worldwide.

Step by step
How do I use the CPSC lab search?
The search page has filters for scope, body type, country, province and city.
- List your rules first with CPSC's Regulatory Robot (for example ASTM F963-23 sections, 16 CFR 1307, 1303, 1501, 1610).
- Open the CPSC lab search. Under Testing Scope, select each rule you need.
- Country/Region: China (or Hong Kong). State/Province: Guangdong for Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Dongguan; Zhejiang for Ningbo. City: up to 10 cities.
- Registered Body: Independent, Firewalled or Governmental conformity assessment bodies are listed separately.
- Open each lab's detail page: check the Lab ID, address, status (listings can expire) and that every rule you need is in scope.
- Check the adverse action list linked on the search page; those labs are inactive.

Before you book
What should I ask a lab in China before booking?
Based on CPSC's small business guide to selecting a lab.
- Is this location accepted by CPSC for each test on my product? (CPSC accepts labs test by test.)
- Is each line item required by US federal law, or a recommendation or another market's rule? Ask for the legal citation.
- Can you cut cost with composite testing, heavy-metal screening per component, or XRF?
- What's your measurement uncertainty, and how do you report results near a limit?
- Will the report be in English, in my company's name as US importer, with my model/SKU and photos of the tested sample?
- Which ASTM F963 edition will you test to? (F963-23 for toys made after April 20, 2024.)
- Can you pull samples from production, not a golden sample?
CPSC suggests getting 2–3 itemized estimates and questioning differences between them. Sources: CPSC: Selecting a third-party laboratory, CPSC: Toy Safety Business Guidance.
China vs US
Is a China lab report as valid as a US lab report?
Yes, if the lab is CPSC-accepted for that rule at that location. ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation alone is not enough. Testing near the factory is usually cheaper: CPSC's benchmark for a heavy-elements test is about $60 in China versus about $190 in the US (Federal Register 2020).
Marketplaces add their own filters. TikTok Shop publishes restricted labs whose reports it may decline, several in Shenzhen and Dongguan (TikTok Shop); Amazon toys must be verified by an approved TIC provider (Eurofins). Related: what Amazon checks on a report.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is the CPSC lab search link still cpsc.gov/cgi-bin/labsearch?
Yes. As checked in October 2026, https://www.cpsc.gov/cgi-bin/labsearch/ is CPSC's official list of accepted testing laboratories.
Is ISO 17025 accreditation enough for CPSIA testing?
No. Children's products must be tested by a lab CPSC has accepted for each specific rule. ISO 17025 is a prerequisite, not a substitute.
Can I use my factory's in-house lab?
Only if CPSC has accepted it for those rules (some are listed as firewalled bodies). Otherwise use an independent CPSC-accepted lab.
How many CPSC-accepted labs are there?
On October 19, 2026 CPSC's “view all” list showed 736 accepted labs worldwide. The list changes daily.
Should I test in China or the US?
Test where the product is made unless you're retesting US stock or want hands-on US guidance. Both are equally valid if the lab is CPSC-accepted for the rule.
